Dear Friends,
My husband and I returned from a two week trip recently, traveling throughout the great state of Washington and into the beautiful landscape of Colorado. We came home exhausted but filled with the rich gifts of love and connection. As I write this Glimmer, I hope you too have moments and people in your life that remind you of your place in the world. That remind you that you are loved.
For me, many of those special people in my life are thousands of miles away. Coming home is bittersweet. I am grateful for my life and ministry here in Connecticut, but the gift of physical connection – of kisses and hugs – of history – of sacred energy shared between human beings – is such a blessing. I wish I could wrap it up and bring it with me!
I’m going to try something new for Thanksgiving this year. I’m going to make place cards for those far-away friends and family, I may even add my parents and others who are no longer with us. We’ll be encircled by Love at the table, as we share our meal and gratitude for the gifts in our lives. This idea came from nearby friends, gifts for sure, a few years ago. Perhaps you, too, would be interested in this sort of action as you navigate the holidays.
Meister Eckhart, a 14th century German mystic, is quoted as saying, “If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is ‘thank you,’ that will suffice.” That will be my prayer as I write names on the place cards, as I add a doodle, leaf or pumpkin in the corner. I will open my heart to the gift this person is and say “thank you” with my action and intention. And I will include you too, dear friends. Our exchange over the years has been gift to me, I am so grateful.
peace, Lisa
