The gift of remembering…

Glimmers August 31, 2026

Dear Friends,

Before August comes to an end, I pause to savor the gifts of summer at the lake. The presence of water soothes my soul –  that’s no cliche, it really happens, doesn’t it? I am grateful. The challenges in my own life, the needs of friends and family, and the chaos that surrounds us in 2026 are all so very difficult. But the time spent just listening to waves lapping, insects clicking and buzzing, and birds chirping brings peace to this morning, this moment in time.

I am also grateful for you, those who receive this monthly message. In the quiet, I pray for the needs you have shared, for your gracious presence, for the reality that my words have occasionally been helpful or inspiring. Much like a community of worship, I envision us coming together – sharing intentions for healing, wholeness, hope. I imagine my Glimmers sparking memories and desires or giving permission to feel difficult feelings.

This day, August 31st, also happens to be Vicki’s birthday. I’ve shared about her before – a friend of 60 years, a potter and dear heart –  died 2 1/2 years ago. She arrived in a dream recently, an unusual circumstance for me, but resulting in a deep experience of loving presence. Gift. I’d been praying in preparation for a new season of ministry, opening my heart to God’s call to accompany others in the Land of Loss. Vicki has become one of my teachers, she accompanies me now as I share these lyrics from Carly Simon:

And will I see you up in that heavenIn all it’s light will I know you’re thereWill we say the things that we never daredIf wishing makes it soWon’t you let me knowThat life is eternalAnd love is immortalAnd death is only a horizonLife is eternalAs we move into the lightAnd a horizon is nothingSave the limit of our sight

Oh dear friends, join me in the astounding truth – death is only a horizon – a horizon that shifts and changes as we move across the water or land in our lives. Let us open our eyes, expand our sight, trust the eternal and immortal invitations of Love.

(Carly’s music is embedded in this link – Youtube nonsense may place a commercial first, but I hope you’ll listen and join Vicki and I in the dance!)

With love, Lisa
